A symbolic groundbreaking ceremony marks the start of a new chapter: The construction of the new production site of Hofgut Eifel Land and Pro Pet Koller lays the foundation for further growth of the traditional family business from the Eifel region.
The success story of the Eifel-based company began more than 30 years ago – and now it has reached a major milestone. Pro Pet Koller is investing around €25 million together with its associated production company, Hofgut Eifel Land, in the construction of a new production facility, including a high-bay warehouse and office wing. "This construction project is a long-awaited and important step that will put us in an even better position for the future," explained Managing Director Michael Koller at the groundbreaking ceremony.
The planned complex will be built on a roughly 15,000-square-meter plot in the Kall industrial park. About 8,000 square meters of the site will be developed, with 27,000 pallet spaces, a large production area, and an administration building. The remaining land will be landscaped. "Our current production in Hellenthal and Gemünd will be completely relocated to Kall," explains Managing Director Markus Koller. This will shorten travel distances between the individual locations and significantly expand production and storage capacities. The move is scheduled for the third quarter of 2027.
Competition in the pet food industry has increased dramatically in recent years, explained Michael Koller. There are hardly any family businesses left active in the sector. At the same time, many large corporations are relocating production abroad for strategic reasons. Therefore, the investment by Hofgut Eifel Land and Pro Pet Koller is a strong statement of commitment to Germany and the region. "I am delighted that Markus and Michael Koller are continuing their commitment to Kall with this major project and investing in the future here. The complete relocation of the company headquarters to Kall is a clear commitment to the location," said Kall's mayor, Emmanuel Kunz.
Over 30 years of pet food – an international recipe for success
“A very special thank you goes to our parents – without them, we wouldn’t be here today,” says Markus Koller. The Eifel-based company had its origins in the 1990s in the basement of the family home in Gemünd. Werner and Veronika Koller began importing high-quality pet food from the USA to Germany in 1993, while their sons Michael and Markus participated in sled dog races with their huskies. Soon, the couple, together with a small butcher shop from Düren, developed their own wet food product, specially tailored to the needs of their athletic sled dogs. Shortly thereafter, demand also increased from owners of normally active dogs, so the product range of the still small family business steadily expanded, and MAC’s became their main revenue generator.
“Our portfolio currently comprises around 450 products, divided among four different brands. And that number is growing,” says Michael Koller. “This year, we will be adding approximately 40 to 50 new products.” He and his brother Markus took over the family business in 2016. Just two years later, the brothers, along with their sister Dr. Christiane Mommer, decided to open their own production facility, Hofgut Eifel Land. The storage and production capacities at all three locations in Kall, Hellenthal, and Gemünd are now almost exhausted. The new production building is therefore urgently needed to accommodate the company's continued growth.
Made in Germany as a seal of quality
The high-quality pet food from the Eifel region is available on the shelves of specialist retailers throughout Germany. But that's not all: Pro Pet Koller also exports its brands internationally. Besides Austria, Poland, Bulgaria, Romania, and other European countries, China is also a major market. The Koller brothers attribute the high national and international demand for their Eifel products to their high standards. "We score points with our quality and our reliability, and have done so for years, even in times of crisis," say Koller.
Sustainability is also a key priority for the Kollerfamily. They have continuously improved the CO2 footprint of their products, developed more sustainable feed with insect protein, and invested in photovoltaic systems. The new production facility, equipped with energy-efficient systems, seamlessly integrates into this development. By building in Kall, Pro Pet Koller actively committed to the Euskirchen district as a business location and will continue to bring Eifel pet food to bowls both nationally and internationally. is
