The Aachen Chamber of Industry and Commerce (IHK) has awarded a sustainability prize to companies from the region for the first time this year, honoring the Eifel-based family business Pro Pet Koller for its sustainable innovations.
Pro Pet Koller , a regional company from the Eifel region, has been committed to environmental protection for years through sustainable projects: As a manufacturer of pet food with close ties to the local area, the family business has set itself the goal of combining animal welfare and environmental protection.
In addition to electricity from its own photovoltaic system, raw materials from the region and recyclable packaging, Pro Pet wants to achieve this goal particularly through environmentally friendly food: The climate-friendly menus of the MAC's brand bring sustainable food with more vegetables and insects into the homes of pet owners.
Insects are an exceptional source of protein and nutrients: Black soldier fly larvae, in particular, provide dogs with abundant minerals and boost their metabolism. Furthermore, their environmentally friendly and species-appropriate breeding leaves a minimal ecological footprint. They represent a 100% natural protein source, unaltered by antibiotics or genetic modification.
“Pioneers in sustainable action”
The Aachen Chamber of Industry and Commerce (IHK Aachen) honored this outstanding commitment with an award for sustainable business practices: With numerous environmental protection projects and, not least, its sustainable, climate-friendly products, Pro Pet is a pioneer of environmentally conscious action in the region, the jury explained at the award ceremony last Tuesday. "The award-winning projects are pioneers of sustainable practices in the region and motivate others to follow suit," explained Gisela Kohl-Vogel, President of the Aachen Chamber of Industry and Commerce.
A total of 28 companies from the districts of Aachen, Düren, Heinsberg, and Euskirchen applied for the inaugural sustainability award. At the award ceremony held at the Chamber of Industry and Commerce (IHK), a panel of experts selected three companies from twelve finalists, including Pro Pet. The public also had one week to vote for the winner of the public award.
Motivation for future innovations
Managing Director Michael Koller accepted the jury's award with great pleasure: "This award means a great deal to us and highlights the hard work of our employees who are behind the development and innovation of our products." The trophy, which consists in part of stone from Aachen Cathedral and harvested Douglas fir wood from the Eifel National Park, is no reason for him to rest on his laurels: "With the help of this award, we want to continue bringing more sustainable products and innovations to people in the future and promote environmentally conscious behavior."
